Margin Trading merupakan fasilitas yang diberikan perusahaan sekuritas kepada nasabahnya, dengan jaminan portofolio. Sesuai aturan, Badan Pengawas Pasar Modal dan Lembaga Keuangan (BAPEPAM-LK) mengizinkan perusahaan sekuritas untuk memberikan margin trading 1:1. artinya, kalau nilai portofolio nasabah mencapai Rp 500 juta, maksimal nilai margin trading Rp 500 juta. Margin trading sangat memberikan resiko tinggi dan belum tentu cocok bagi setiap pemodal pemula dan berpengalaman. Sebab, mayoritas investor justru bunting selama ini, bahkan terpaksa menyuntikkan dana lagi.
Tips Sebelum Melakukan Margin Trading
1. Pahami resikonya
2. Kerugian lebih besar dari keuntungan
3. Bersedia suntik modal baru
4. Pelajari perjanjian dengan broker
5. Jangan tergiur bujukan broker
6. Broker berhak melepas saham, tanpa persetujuan nasabah.

Mereka menjelaskan, margin trading adalah satu satunya fasiltas untuk mengurangi kerugian dan meningkatkan keuntungan. Oleh karena itu, investor pemula tidak direkonendasikan mengunakan fasilitas yang beresiko tinggi itu. Setiap investasi, termasuk saham, memiliki resiko. Oleh sebab itu, dia menghimbau supaya investor jangan sampai berhutang membeli saham. Bagi yang sudah terlanjur, tegas dia, saham sebaiknya ditahan (hold) dan terus membayar bunga. Selain itu, investor secepatnya menukarkan portofolio saham kepada sektor yang diyakini lebih cepat pulih kembali, tapi bunga tetap dilunasi.

“Langka selanjutnya investor harus berani cut loss dan mulai kembali mengoleksi saham-saham dari kecil tanpa mengutang dari sekuritas. Sebab, krisis financial global diprediksi terus berlanjut, sehingga menyimpan saham dalam jangka panjang lebih menguntungkan.”

Investor lebih berhati-hati mengunakan margin trading ketika kondisi bursa belum menentu. Kalau kondisi pasar financial global mulai membaik, transaksi margin bisa digunakan. Namun, investor yang mengunakan modal sendiri memiliki resiko kerugian yang lebih rendah dibandingkan pinjaman. Dengan modal sendiri, mereka memiliki kesempatan menahan portofolionya dalam jangka panjang.
Mereka sebaiknya mengunakan dana menganggur (idle) dalam membeli saham. Sebab, investasi saham bersifat jangka panjang, bukan jangka pendek. Dengan demikian, investor tidak dirugikan ketika indeks terus terpuruk.(sumber: Investordaily)
